Months passed, and with sacrifice, I made it to the end of my studies. However, my class' graduation would be celebrated two months later, when I was then going to receive my diploma. So we decided it was time to tell my parents that I was pregnant. Or rather, that Axe and I were pregnant. We bought the ticket and off we went to the ranch again. After a few days, I said: “Mom, I have something to tell you. It's something very important that will change my life forever. I am Pregnant." She then said, “Really, daughter? Congratulations". She gave me a hug, started to cry, and said she was very worried about me because several times I seemed distant, I did not talk much and she did not know what was happening to me. Then she asked how many months pregnant I was, and if Axe was ok regarding that.
It was also the moment I told the rest of my family this great news. I confess that some people said “congratulations”, but most were very hesitant in the face of that revelation. "Are you crazy?" some asked me. In those moments, hearing these judgmental words, I felt irresponsible and reckless. How could I, who studied so much, neglect and get pregnant from a person with whom I was less than 1 year together? Although legitimate, today I consider that these feelings arose in view of people's reaction to that news. But I was already pregnant and they didn't understand it. What could be a greater miracle than the generation and birth of new life?
For me, that baby in my womb was the possibility of the extension of my being, a legacy that I left for the world, the piece of who I am. The message I want to leave in this post is that if you only have stones in your hands, use them to build and not stone. You can be light in someone's life simply with a beautiful gesture, with words of positive reinforcement, and with a smile! And if you're not willing to do that, silence can also be the best music at certain times.
